TDQ Investigates: Is John Merely A Legend In His Own Mind With These Horrible Lyrics?

John LegendIn this installment of “What in the Hell is Wrong With Music Lyrics Today,” we have a field day with John Legend’s “All of Me.” With so, so many contradictions throughout the entire song, this piece practically writes itself.

The very opening line of this so-called “love song” insults his “wife” by mentioning her smart mouth. What would he do without her smart mouth? Probably not get so frustrated and aggravated.

Then the pre-chorus brings us the classic, “My head’s under water/But I’m breathing fine.” How we haven’t had a spate of young, impressionable John Legend fans find themselves nearly drowned to death by following his lyrics since this song was released is beyond me.

Then the chorus itself throws this at us:

You’re my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I’m winning”

Not since Alanis Morrissette’s “Ironic” has a songwriter needed a dictionary more.

Now, maybe this is the parent in me talking, but when I start a sentence with, “How many times do I have to tell you,” it doesn’t end with a loving or endearing sentiment, whether or not she’s beautiful when she is crying. And just how often does Mr. Legend see his wife cry? Hmm? Hmmmm?

Then during the bridge, Mr. Legend states:

Cards on the table, we’re both showing hearts

Do you have any idea the odds of two players showing hands with nothing but hearts in it? Clearly, Mr. Legend doesn’t, because the odds are 205 to 1. I suppose one could say that those are about the same odds as this song being such a hit, but it’s more likely the odds of anyone actually understanding the gibberish espoused in this song about his spouse. Maybe when he plays cards, he does lose when he wins.

If his wife really his both his muse and his worse distraction, maybe he needs to write his songs when she isn’t around. Then he could better avoid penning such ridiculous lyrics. Just our two cents.

Mom Suing Disney, Pretty Much Everybody Involved With “Frozen,” Because Her Child Demands To Watch It Over And Over And Over

For the small price of $10,000 you can purchase Disney's dedicated Frozen player to allow your children to watch Frozen uninterrupted for up to 28 days.

For the small price of $10,000 you can purchase Disney’s dedicated Frozen player to allow your children to watch Frozen uninterrupted for up to 28 days.

San Jose, CA—It seems the latest Disney musical mega-hit “Frozen” is making headlines in the legal world as well. A single mother of a 2 year-old has filed a lawsuit against Disney, Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad and the descendants of Han Christian Anderson, on whose fairy tale the film is based.

“Every —damn time we’re in the —damn car, all she wants to listen to is that —damn ‘Frozen’ soundtrack,” said Regina Stiller, 19. “And she must have watched the stupid movie like, literally a bajillion times at her Memaw’s house, or her daddy’s house, or her daddy’s Memaw’s place. Thank God my Blu-Ray is broke, so we don’t have to watch it when she stays with me.”

Stiller’s attorney, Bruce Fillion, said his client has a tremendous case against Disney, as “their calculated, diabolical marketing strategy, as well as the inherent ‘entertainment value’  associated with the film, has made it impossible, impossible, for my client to have a moment’s peace while she drives her small child back and forth to daycare and her family’s house. My client can’t tell her no, what sort of parent would she be if she did that? Her only recourse is to pursue Disney to recover the damages she is clearly due.”

Stiller said Disney’s actions have forced her to purchase all new bed sheets, posters and toys featuring the characters from “Frozen,” putting her in a terribly precarious position, what with her modest income as a beauty school student.

Fillion said he fully expects this suit to become a class action. “I personally have not yet had the, um, pleasure of having children, but from what the paralegals in my office have said, and they all have children themselves for some reason, apparently this thing is running rampant, and is totally driving parents up the wall all across the country. Disney better watch out.” Continue reading

“Women From The Area Were Walking Up To Me And Grabbing My Biceps And Feeling My Chest:” A TDQ Q&A With luxuryworldtraveler Founder Gil Antolin

Gil Antolin

When asked about his inverted zip line technique Gil revealed it was just to keep his flip-flops from falling off.

This week, we somehow tracked down Gil Antolin, founder of the crazy popular Instagram account. Gil gave us some advice about a Hawaiian anniversary trip, told us about how amazing the redwood trees are and the exceptionally warm greeting he received while he was in China. Here is this week’s TDQ Q&A with @luxuryworldtraveler himself, Gil Antolin:

The Daily Quarterly: Tell us how your luxury travel Instagram account came about?

Gil Antolin: Traveling the world is one of my biggest passions. I wanted to create an account on Instagram that was more structured than some of the other themed accounts were. I decided to create an account that someone like myself (fellow travelers) would enjoy. So I decided to feature a different region of the world for a week at a time and really highlight some of the unique places and activities specific to each of those different places. Little did I know it would become this popular so quickly.

TDQ: Who is your biggest influence?

GA: My biggest influence would have to be my Mother. She is one of the most genuine and best people I have ever met. From an early age she instilled many core values and beliefs into me that I still live by to this day. We have always had an amazing relationship and she is one of my best friends. It’s true what they say too, the older I get, the smarter she becomes.

TDQ: What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten?

GA: I believe the best advice I have ever received was from a quote that I saw in a movie. I believe it was “The Secret” or some motivational movie. The quote is by Joseph Campbell, “Follow your bliss, and the universe will open doors where there were only walls.” This quote couldn’t be more true for me. As soon as I made the decision to take a chance and pursue this full-time, doors have continued to be opened for me I never knew were there.

TDQ: What’s the worst advice you’ve ever gotten?

GA: I believe the worst I have ever received came from multiple different people that in one way or another advised me to play it safe, just get a corporate job, and be like everyone else.

@luxuryworldtraveler on Instagram

With over 350,000 followers, @luxuryworldtravel is doing much better than @budgetworldtraveler, which has zero followers.

TDQ: Who was your favorite world traveler when you were a kid?

GA: My father had a friend by the name of Chuck. He was a self-employed millionaire and was always talking about his last amazing vacation. From the moment I met him I knew that he lived the type of life that I wanted. I remember always asking him about the people, place and adventures he had been on. My family never traveled out of the States, so for me, I enjoyed living vicariously through him.

TDQ: What trip are you planning right now?

GA: Currently I am planning trips to St. Lucia, Fiji, Miami and Italy.

TDQ: My wife and I are planning a trip to Hawaii next year for our 15th anniversary. Any advice?

GA: If it is just the two of you, then I would recommend either Maui, Kauai or the Big Island depending on your interests. If you just want to get off the grid and be left alone and privacy is what you are looking for, then Kauai is probably your best bet. If you are into outdoor activities such as kayaking, surfing, snorkeling then I would recommend Maui. The Big Island is also amazing too, helicopter tours over the volcanos are always a once in a lifetime experience.
