British Authorities Trying To Come Up With “Really Neat Way” To Lure Julian Assange Out Of Ecuadorian Embassy

Assange, Ecuadorian Embassy

Authorities were sure this was going to work. As of the of this writing it has not.

London—Holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy since June, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is trying the patience of British authorities, who want to extradite him back to his home country of Sweden, where officials there want to talk to him about an ongoing sexual assault investigation.

Assange was granted diplomatic asylum inside the embassy, and said he fears being sent home to Sweden will eventually lead to him being extradited to the United States where he would face charges over Wikileaks’ acquisition and posting of sensitive diplomatic cables.

And to date, he hasn’t left the embassy, leading to Scotland Yard’s finest scratching their heads for the best way to lure him out.

“Cover For Me, Sam:” Jack Klugman Dies

Jack Klugman

Jack Klugman, right, on the set of Quincy, M.E. with future RECOiL writer/director Brian DiMaio, left. The two met on the set and were fast friends according to DiMaio. The two spent so much time together, against his will according to Klugman, that they were often referred to as the odd couple.

Los Angeles—Emmy Award-winning actor Jack Klugman died Monday at his home. He was 90.

As a struggling actor in the 1940s, he roomed for a short time with Charles Bronson. For years, both men denied rumors that Bronson’s character in “Death Wish” was based on Klugman.

Klugman first gained fame with his his Emmy-winning turn as Oscar Madison on the television version of Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple.” His success on that program led to his getting a spin-off, the successful “Quincy, M.E.” which showed Oscar after he left the field of sports writing and became the Los Angeles County coroner.

Klugman also appeared on the big screen in the films “12 Angry Men,” “Goodbye, Columbus,” “Days of Wine and Roses,” “RECOiL” and “The Detective.”

Ndamukong Suh: “Tell Matt Schaub To Keep His Groin Away From My Foot!”

Ndamukong Suh

Ndamukong Suh could have preserved his place in the game as well as his endorsements if he had only chosen the correct foot to put down.

Detroit—For the second Thanksgiving in a row, Detroit Lions defensive player Ndamukong Suh made the highlights of the game, and once again, it was his actions after the whistle that have people talking. Well, most people talking. If you’re Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub, you’re more likely wincing in pain from the kick Suh delivered to your groin.

But just as he did last year, Suh insisted that his transgression was just a big misunderstanding, blaming Schaub himself for the kick. Suh said afterward, “he shouldn’t have been there. There was no reason at all for him to leave his groin in the path of my foot. That was ridiculous. Ain’t my fault, it’s his. Watch the tape. Watch the tape.”

The character Ignatius J. Reilly is described, in the book, as “a fat Don Quixote.” Substantial actors such as John Belushi, Chris Farley, and John Candy have been cast in the role only to pass away before production. Producers have attempted to break the curse by casting the much thinner Qualls.

Los Angeles—After decades of failed attempts to bring John Kennedy Toole’s cult classic novel, A Confederacy of Dunces to the big screen, Universal announced yesterday that DJ Qualls has been cast as the main character of the novel, Ignatius J. Reilly, in the planned upcoming film version, set for a Christmas Day 2013 release.

Universal acquired the rights earlier this year after Sony’s possession of them expired. Production could never get going by Sony Pictures despite scripts being finalized and purported, secret table readings.

The novel, published after Toole’s death, is set in New Orleans during the early 1960s and tells the story of Qualls’ character, Reilly, as he experiences misadventure after misadventure at various jobs, and his interactions and living arrangements with his overbearing, widowed mother, who will reportedly be played by Patricia Heaton.

Tom Hanks goes over his questions for Walt Disney as he waits for him to thaw in an undisclosed location. (Our guess is in or around the Epcot golf ball.)

Los Angeles—A source close to the Disney Corporation has confirmed that two-time Oscar-winner Tom Hanks used his considerable Hollywood influence to have Walt Disney unfrozen so he could study the cartoonist for his role as Disney in an upcoming film.

Hanks recently began working on “Saving Mr. Banks,” a film about the making of the children’s classic “Mary Poppins.” Hanks plays Walt Disney in the film, and knew the best way he could capture the essence of the Mickey Mouse creator was to actually meet him face to face and study him up close and personal.

The source told TDQ, “That’s the sort of actor he is, you know. He formed a terrific relationship with Jim Lovell while doing research for ‘Apollo 13.’ He met with dozens of World War II veterans while prepping for ‘Saving Private Ryan,’ and he even researched kids who had been turned into grownups by some magic wish-granting machine before he did ‘Big.’ He’s always taken roles like this very, very seriously.”
