Pensacola, FL—A local father is being investigated by child services and the state attorney’s office after he allegedly locked his son in his car to take advantage of free locksmith services.
Dan Lawton, 39, is under investigation after he allegedly locked his car keys in his 2004 Toyota Sienna minivan, called his ex-wife to bring him a spare set, then locked the keys in the car again, this time on purpose, after putting his 8 year-old son in the minivan, so that he could get the minivan opened for free by a local locksmith.
Ray’s Locksmith, a local locksmith, offers free services to people who have locked their keys in their cars when children are also locked inside.
Lawton admitted to the facts of the incident, but said his son was in no danger.
